When I was still a university student, a friend of a friend told me how he bitted the financial market by a bonanza position he made in the options market. Obviously, I liked the idea of making some extra money (and the chance to stop working in variety of student positions!). But it wasn’t an easy assignment. I spent weeks in the library collecting information and a few weeks more to absorb it. When I finally felt prepared to become the trader of the century, I start trading.

Well, back in those days before you did anything with your money you first called and met with your financial advisor. And because trading info was not in real-time, the process of executing a trade was very complicated. If I wanted to buy a specific security, I had to call a certain guy at the bank and the line was almost always busy. Trading commissions were very high and sometimes equal to the pricing of the option. Perhaps most frustrating was how difficult it was to get someone else’s opinion. I had to call a friend who knew a friend who heard from a friend how to trade well. Most of the time, I ended up asking the bank officer’s opinion about the market. After a while, I learned that if I acted the exact opposite of him, I would make a lot of money. Basically, one thing was clear… there was no room for people like me in this industry. The infrastructure was just not there.

Thanks to today’s technology age, information is abundant. We have the potential to reach out to millions of other traders via on-line forums, and read hundreds of posts to see what “gurus” are saying about the market or a specific stock. We can choose between hundreds of brokers, and get a real-time and high quality decision making platform for free.

Although the IT revolution has finally stepped into the financial markets, I do feel there is still a long way to go to provide traders like me with a trustworthy, collaborative, effective, and educational experience. We’re aiming to cross that bridge and make the next generation of online trading a reality with the launch of Currensee.
